Studieförbundet Bilda and Friends of Standing Together (FoST) Sweden welcome you to a panel discussion with leading representatives of the organisation Standing Together – the largest Palestinian-Jewish grassroots movement in Israel.
Standing Together was founded in 2015 with the goal of uniting Jewish and Palestinian/Arab Israeli citizens to create new political alternatives through a focus on economic and political justice. Its leading representatives, Rula Daood and Alon-Lee Green, were named in 2024 by Time Magazine as two of 100 emerging leaders from around the world shaping the future.
Over the past 16 months, the organisation has launched numerous demonstrations and actions across Israel calling for a ceasefire, political action to release hostages, and long-term efforts towards a lasting and just peace for everyone in the region.
They have also been active in defending the rights of Palestinians – including legal support for Palestinians in Israel facing discrimination and harassment, protecting food deliveries to Gaza blocked by settlers, and collecting their own aid shipments.
In the longer term, they are working to change the political conversation by shifting the Israeli definition of security beyond being solely military aspect and broadening the understanding of how to build safety and security for people.
There will be a conversation about what life in Israel looks like today for different groups in the country, and how it has been affected by the October 7 attack, the wars in Gaza and Lebanon, and the current situation across the Middle East. The discussion will also address the challenges of Jewish-Palestinian cooperation and the importance of new political visions and a changed political discourse in the region.
Additionally, we want to discuss how the outside world’s often polarized view of Israel and Palestine affects the situation on the ground, influences our perception of events there, and impacts our ability to stand together here in Sweden.
In addition to Rula Daood and Alon-Lee Green, the panel will include Isabell Schierenbeck who is a professor of Political science focusing on Israeli and Middle Eastern politics and representatives of local civil society in Sweden. The panel will be moderated by a member of FoST Sweden.
The event is open to all and should be a safe space for dialogue where no one should be attacked because of their background. When registering, you can send a question you would like to ask Rula and Alon-Lee, and some of the questions will be selected.
The conversation will be held in English. Everyone is welcome! Registration is now closed.
